Attendance Policies
Because we are responsible to the requirements for AmeriCorps, your certification program (if you are in one), and the agreements we have made to our district partners, we must ensure that we have accurate attendance for your professional development experiences. Therefore, we have three important policies:
-
We will record your attendance at all PD experiences. If you are more than 30 minutes late or leave 30 minutes early, you will not receive credit for that session. We’ve found that when teachers are late to sessions, the flow of learning is disrupted, and they miss crucial background knowledge in order to successfully implement their learning. We know that traffic can be unpredictable in Atlanta, so ensure that you give yourself plenty of travel time if you are attending a sessions. All sessions will begin at 6:00 or later. If, because of your school schedule, you have difficulty getting to sessions on time, please contact your MTLD so they can help you problem solve.
-
For the Corps Member Summit, attendance is required. However, we know that important life events might make attendance impossible. If you have significant reason you cannot attend, you will need to apply for an excused absence. Contact your MTLD and complete the form they send you at least two weeks in advance of the event. You will then receive notification if your absence is approved. If you miss the Corps Member Summit, you will have to make-up 8 hours (approximately 2 courses) through the course catalog and a service project.
-
You earn attendance credits by attending at minimum 3 of 4 classes in each course. Most courses you take will be a total of 2 credit hours; however, you earn course credit by attending at minimum 3 of 4 classes in each course. If you miss more than 1 class in a 4 class series, you will not receive the credits and will have to enroll in an additional course to earn those credits.
