Mandatory Components

While you will have choice in many of the professional development experiences you engage, there are some mandatory requirements for every Metro Atlanta corps member. These requirements and expectations are outlined on this page.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness (DEI) Course

Each Corps Member is required to take the DEI course under the Power & Privilege strand during either the first semester or second semester of the 2014-2015 school year. We believe each of our roles is to continually develop critical consciousness by understanding the impact of our race, class, background, ability, and privilege on the role we play in creating change within our sphere of influence.

AmeriCorps Service Project

As an AmeriCorps member, you are required to participate in a service project as a part of your commitment. You must participate in this project in order to receive your AmeriCorps education award each year. The service project is a way for AmeriCorps members across the nation to deepen their impact on communities.

Corps Member Summit

The Corps Member Summit is a time for us to come together with our colleagues (CMs, alumni, staff, and other partners) to refresh our inspiration and connect to the collective impact of our movement, to learn from one another, and to look ahead to the future. The Corps Member Summit will be held in December/January and will be a time of learning, reflection, and celebration.

Engaging with MTLD Coaching

We believe our coaching and support model is a critical component in the rise of student achievement in your classrooms. MTLD coaching is a very important piece of your professional development strategy across your corps commitment. Your MTLD will help you leverage your strengths in the classroom while also providing you with advice and strategies that will continually develop the mindsets, knowledge, and skills you need to positively impact the achievement of your students.

Surveys

You will take several surveys during your corps commitment that will allow us to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of our programming and adjust aspects of the programming to better meet your needs and the needs of future corps members. Types of surveys include: ï‚·

  • Teach For America national surveys taken at the end for the first 9 weeks of school, at the middle of the year, and at the end of the year ï‚·

  • Course catalog surveys taken at the end of each course experience ï‚·

  • Event surveys taken at the end of each big event, such as the Kickoff and the Corps Member Summit

Teacher Certification Pathway (TCP)

Corps Members enrolled in TCP will have mandatory requirements that satisfy state certification rules and policies. These requirements include, but are not limited to, submitting artifacts for the required electronic portfolio a certain parts of the year, completing and submitting an Education Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA) in the Spring, and engaging in specific certification-required courses. You will find additional information about TCP mandatory requirements on the TCP website page.
