Education Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA)
edTPA is a teacher performance assessment where Candidates describe, analyze, and evaluate the teaching of a series of 3–5 lessons (or, if teaching within a large time block, about 3–5 hours of connected instruction) referred to as a learning segment. These focus on specific skills for each content area (for example, using textual support in English) and are consistent with the Common Core State Standards, and additional state and national content standards as appropriate. The edTPA Performance Assessment consists of three inter-related tasks:
edTPA is a student-centered multiple measure assessment of teaching. It is designed to be educative and predicting of effective teaching and student learning. Stanford University faculty and staff at Stanford Center for Assessment, Learning, and Equity (SCALE) developed edTPA. They received substantive advice and feedback from teachers and teacher educators.
The edTPA assessment is scored by Pearson and you must score overall proficient on the assessment during the 2nd semester of their first year of teaching. If you do not score proficient during the 2nd semester of Year 1, you must score proficient during the 1st semester of Year 2 to maintain your highly qualified status.
